Easter 2009

Dear Friends

"Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the Life,
he who believes in me, though he were dead yet shall he live"
John 11:25

"Easter (Greek: Π?σχα, Pascha) is the most important religious feast in the Christian liturgical year.[1] Christians believe that Jesus was resurrected from the dead three days[2] after his crucifixion, and celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day or Easter Sunday[3] (also Resurrection Day or Resurrection Sunday), two days after Good Friday. The chronology of his death and resurrection is variously estimated between the years 26 and 36 A.D.

Easter also refers to the season of the church year called Eastertide or the Easter Season. Traditionally the Easter Season lasted for the forty days from Easter Day until Ascension Day but now officially lasts for the fifty days until Pentecost. The first week of the Easter Season is known as Easter Week or the Octave of Easter. Easter also marks the end of Lent, a season of prayer and penance.

Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. Easter falls at some point between late March and late April each year (early April to early May in Eastern Christianity), following the cycle of the Moon. After several centuries of disagreement, all churches accepted the computation of the Alexandrian Church (now the Coptic Church) that Easter is the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon, which is the first moon whose 14th day (the ecclesiastic "full moon") is on or after March 21 (the ecclesiastic "vernal equinox").

According to Bede, the English monastic historian, the English word Easter comes from the Anglo-Saxon name for the month of April, which was known as "Eostremonath" in the AngloSaxon tongue and since Pascha was most often celebrated in Eostremonath, the English Christians began calling it "Easter". Bede also notes that the month was named after the Anglo-Saxon goddess Esostre.Rituals related to the goddess Eostre focus on new beginnings, symbolized by the egg, and fertility, which is symbolized by the hare (or Easter bunny)."

Christians across the worlds have however adopted the egg as a symbol of new life. Celebrate easter this year by begining a new life in Christ!

Here are my three simple steps to begining a new life in Christ Jesus this easter.

  1. Accept God as creator of the universe and your father.

  2. Accept God's son Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us from our sins.

  3. Pray this prayer: Lord Jesus, I am a sinner , thank you for dying to save me from my sin, please forgive my sins and wipe away my guilt, come into my heart now and reign in me for ever. In Jesus name Amen.

If you prayed the prayer, let me know, I'd love to send you our free leaflet, ' Steps 2 Heaven'.

We'll be celebrating easter at Spring Harvest this year, we'll be at both sites, Skegness and Minehead and we would love to see you, please visit our stand in the skyline pavilion.

Love and blessings in Jesus,
